Honda has announced the price tag on the new Insight.The MSRP of the Honda Insight is much less than that of the new Prus. The lower MSRP earns the 2010 Insight the title of most affordable hybrid in the U.S.
The Insight offers an ECO Assist system which enhances fuel economy further by controlling acceleration rates and helping the driver drive learn how to drive more economically.The ECON switch control how the car drives, you can set the car to drive more aggressively, or you can tell the car you want to drive more efficiently, and there is a system inplace that will tell you when you are getting the best MPG.The hybrid engine uses new technology called the IMA which provide assistance to the motor via an electric boost. Th IMA system is cheaper to manufacture, lighter than the original, and adds to the overall interior space. The Insight makes good use of Honda’s Intelligent V-TEC engine technology.You can buy the Insight fully-loaded with such features as: satellite nav., paddle shiters on the steering wheel, alloy rims, an upgraded audio system, and of course cruise. The Insight and the Prius are clear competitors but Honda is determined to knock Toyota out of the competitive market to become the hybrid leader.
Opposed to the Insight is the Prius with a 160-hp 1.8L motor has a couple of different driving settings. These 3 modes are the Power Mode which increases the performance of the Prius, the ECO mode which makes fuel economy the #1 proirity, and finally a EV mode which stands for Electric Vehicle.Toyota has a new Smart Collision system called the PCS which is available on the new Prius.Just set the PCS and the Prius will slow down by itself if the car ahead of you suddenly hits his brakes. The Prius also includes a new touch sensor system on the steering wheel to ensure safe driving.
When it comes to price the Insight is hands down the winner, but the gas mileage rating is another story altogether.Recent fuel economy test give the Honda Insight a rating of 41 MPG; while the Toyota Prius ranks at an impressive 46 MPG.If you drive over 20,000 miles in a year (with gas costing .50 a gallon), so driving the Insight would cost over 00 in fuel a year whereas the Prius would cost just over 00. Rolling around in a Toyota Prius will save over 50 gallons of gas per year as compared to the Honda, but it would take 27 years of driving to recoup the lower cost of the Insight.Even though the Toyota nets better MPG, the Honda is still a better value due to its low price!
