Photo by iandraz It’s part of normal maintenance on Nissan Maxima to replace the coolant hoses. You are advised to change your automotive hoses once every four years or whenever you see them show signs of wear. Located at the front of the engine block, Nissan Maxima has two engine block drain plugs in order to speed the draining process of the radiator.
Here are the steps to maintain your Maxima’s Coolant Hoses:
1. Turn to high heat the Maxima’s manual heat control. For automatic controls it must be set to maximum. Leave the engine for at least one hour to cool down after driving. After this, remove the radiator cap.
Position a catch can or a bucket under the drain plug and don’t forget to remove enough coolant in order to minimize leaks during hoses removal.
Detach the engine block draing plugs, it’s done to make radiator drain quicker during the replacement of lower hose.
2. Loosen your Maxima’s hose clamps by using a pair of pliers. Now slide the clamp to center of your hose. Twist or pull the hose until it’s detached from the fitting. Cut difficult hoses using a knife and make sure you peel the rubber at the end back over the nipple.
3. Take the new hose and prepare it by first dipping its ends in clean coolant. Now slide your clamps onto the new hose and push your hose onto its fitting. If one end feels too tight you may turn the hose around.
4. Tighten your clamps using a pair of pliers. Double check to make sure that the clamp is positioned inside the clamp dimple. Make sure the engine block and the drain plug are tight enough. Replace the radiator cap and refill your radiator with coolant.
5. Start your Maxima, and look for leaks around the hose ends and drain plugs. Once the engine has circulated, add an appropriate amount of coolant.
