Photo by iandraz It’s part of normal maintenance on Nissan Maxima to replace the coolant hoses. You are advised to change your automotive hoses once every four years or whenever you see them show signs of wear. Located at the front of the engine block, Nissan Maxima has two engine block drain plugs in order to speed the draining process of the radiator.

Here are the steps to maintain your Maxima’s Coolant Hoses:

1. Turn to high heat the Maxima’s manual heat control. For automatic controls it must be set to maximum. Leave the engine for at least one hour to cool down after driving. After this, remove the radiator cap.

Position a catch can or a bucket under the drain plug and don’t forget to remove enough coolant in order to minimize leaks during hoses removal.

Detach the engine block draing plugs, it’s done to make radiator drain quicker during the replacement of lower hose.

2. Loosen your Maxima’s hose clamps by using a pair of pliers. Now slide the clamp to center of your hose. Twist or pull the hose until it’s detached from the fitting. Cut difficult hoses using a knife and make sure you peel the rubber at the end back over the nipple.

3. Take the new hose and prepare it by first dipping its ends in clean coolant. Now slide your clamps onto the new hose and push your hose onto its fitting. If one end feels too tight you may turn the hose around.

4. Tighten your clamps using a pair of pliers. Double check to make sure that the clamp is positioned inside the clamp dimple. Make sure the engine block and the drain plug are tight enough. Replace the radiator cap and refill your radiator with coolant.

5. Start your Maxima, and look for leaks around the hose ends and drain plugs. Once the engine has circulated, add an appropriate amount of coolant.

Photo by russ-j-taylor The American market considers the Maxima as one of Nissan’s most significant vehicles. Known originally as the Datsun 810, it officially became “Maxima” in 1982. At the same time, the Datsun brand began its evolution into Nissan. A second-generation Maxima which introduced a front wheel drive V6 became available from 1985 to 1988. The third-generation Maxima later emerged for the 1989 to 1994 model years. During this period, Nissan enjoyed immense product success with the first Nissan Maxima featuring true-blue sporting credentials.

Unlike other Japanese mid-sized sedans, the Maxima came with a V6 only and the option to order a manual transmission. An option for a 160-hp V6 was offered for early versions. The 190-hp engine was then presented in 1992 for the Maxima SE. Cars built for the 1995 to 1999 model years made up the fourth generation. For this model of the Maxima, Nissan made room for a greater length, improved the quality of the interior, and introduced a new 190-hp all-aluminum V6 for all trim levels. The handling was not quite as responsive as the previous version and the styling did not appear to be well-received.

However, it remained popular due to its desirable combination of utility, performance, and luxury. The years 2000 to 2003 saw the coming of the fifth-generation Maxima. Major developments include the 222 hp from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom, and a 200-watt Bose audio system. In 2002, a bump in power to 255 hp was added as a distinguishing mark of the Nissan Maxima from the new Nissan Altima.

Sending the engine’s power to the front wheels is a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The current model was last redesigned in 2004. Before the 2007 model year came out, the Maxima was packaged with either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual. Within the next year I am planning on getting a new car. I really like the Nissan Maxima, but I would really like other cars to compare it to. What other cars are comparable to the Nissan Maxima, as far as price, quality, appearance, etc. . . .

I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima and I wanted remote start but I’m not sure if it can be put in because I have the smart key. Any help?

I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima that sometimes wont start unless shifted into neutral and slammed into park. I had a friend check it and they said I need to replace the neutral safety switch. I now have the part but dont know where to find it on the car. Please help. I read the chiltons manual and it has a picture but cant tell if it is inside the shifter or on top or motor or underneath.
