I’m pretty sure those of you who own a Camry must have been quite satisfied with lots of benefits and durability that this car gives.

But in order to keep enjoying those advantages, you must perform a regular maintenance on your ride.

Without a regular maintenance it’s more likely that you’ll spend more money in the future to repair and fix the damages.

One of the regular maintenance procedures is changing the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

The shortcut to do this is of course by relying on a professional mechanic to handle the job.

But if you decide to extend your knowledge, save money, and gain the satisfaction of doing the replacement by yourself, then let’s get your hand dirty.

You’ll be needing proper tools and the courage to do this, so get ready.

Below are the steps that show you how to change automatic transmission fluid in your Camry:

First you need to drain the old fluid out from the fluid pan. To do this you should first clean the outward of the pan and its surrounding areas. By doing this you’ll prevent the pan from dirt contamination.

Now, remove the dipstick that’s located in the filler tube and replace it with a funnel. Place a drain pan under the fluid pan. This pan is used for catching the draining fluid that will flow out.

Once everything is set into place, you may use a socket wrench to remove the drain plug of the fluid pan. Put the plug on a safe and clean and take time to let the old fluid drain.

Remove the fluid pan from your Camry. In order to do this, the two bolts need to be loosen in a diagonal fashion.

Because there are bolts with different sizes, so you should pay attention the places which every bolt should go.

You should prepare to catch the pan before you completely remove the two remaining bolts. You may catch the pan by holding it.

The pan often still contains some fluid in it, so you should be very careful when detach it from your car to avoid any fluid from spilling.

Put the pan aside on a clean place.

Now it’s time to disassemble other transmission parts. You need to disconnect the wires of the valve body in order to detach it.

You should also take off the retaining bolts of the strainer. Once again you need to pay attention on which each bolt should go.

Now, you need to remove any debris that still remain on the valve body and throw away the gasket.

You should take an extra caution when doing this step because the valve body usually still contains some amounts of fluid that may drain out.

There’s a magnet that’s located at the bottom of the fluid pan, you may want to clean it.

You should remove all the magnets. There are metal shavings that are attached to the magnets, you need to clean them.

If the fluid pan still contains fluid then it needs to be drained. Wipe off any excess fluid by using a clean rug.

If the gasket is already too old, consider to replace it. In order to clean the transmission better, you need to scrape off more material from it.

Air dry the fluid pan, once the remaining fluid is completely drained out and cleaned.

Now it’s time to reassemble every components that are previously detached.

Attach the parts back into its original assembly and replace any parts that need to be replaced like the gasket’s magnets.

When all the assembly is completed, the transmission is now ready to be filled with a new supply of automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

Add the new supply of automatic transmission fluid using the dipstick tube. Observe your Camry’s manual to find out the proper amount and the recommended fluid.

The dipstick usually has a mark that tells the optimum level which the fluid should be filled up to.

Alright, now you have successfully changed the automatic transmission fluid of your beloved Camry. Try to start the engine and let it remains idle for several minutes.

Check your dipstick and make sure the fluid is still within the recommended level. If it’s not, add more fluid.

The first Camry was designed and built early in 1980. It was targeted for economical front-wheel-drive sedan segment. It was equipped with a front transverse-mounted four-cylinder engine.

The fact is Camry has grown in size through the years. But as a mid sized car Camry still rely on its four cylinder, transverse-mounted engine in order to harness the front wheels.

The brake light switch that’s located under the dashboard of your Camry is used for activating rear brake lights whenever the brake pedal is depressed. A bad brake-light switch may lead to malfunctioned rear brake lights.

Now, let’s learn how to replace the brake light switch:

1. First, you need to open driver’s side front door.

2. Find the brake light switch. It’s located near the top of the brake pedal and mounted to the underside of your Camry’s dashboard.

3. Pushing in the tabs on both side of the wiring connector and pull it straight out in order to unplug it from the brake light switch.

4. Hold the switch and turn it around counterclockwise. Pull it straight out from the mounting hole

5. Insert the replacement brake light switch into the hole and rotate clockwise until it locks firmly.

6. Plug back the previously unplugged connector into the new switch until it snaps properly.

The obvious signs of malfunctioned brake-light switch are whether the brake lights don’t work at all or they remain on all the time.

Most of the time this problem can be fixed by replacing the switch. But however you should check the brake lights’ fuse first before deciding to purchase the new replacement switch. This fuse that is used by all brake lights is located inside Camry’s fuse box.

To find the location of the brake-light fuse, you should refer to your Camry owner’s guide.

If there’s only a single brake light that is not working then it’s more likely a blown bulb or there’s something wrong with the bulb socket which most of the time is corrosion.

You may purchase the replacement brake-light switches of your Camry at local Toyota dealer. You may also order brake light switches online which is very easy and convenient, just check out below.

The benefit of purchasing online is you can read the reviews from other users and perform research on several alternatives. More options are always better.

The process for changing the oil is same for all Camry models. But the filter locations and the oil types vary depending on the type of engine and age of your Camry.

Here are the some preparations before changing the oil of your camry:

1. Lift up the Camry with the help of a car jack. Set the jack stands underneath. Or you may drive your Camry onto a set of wheel ramps, if you don’t have jack stands. To prevent the car from rolling you should brace the backs of the front tires.

2. Open the hood of your Camry and find the oil filler cap and the dipstick. For 1997 to 2000 Camry, the oil filler cap is located on the valve cover. Remove the dipstick and cap.

3. Now, you should find out the engine type of your Camry. For 1 MZ-FE engine, the oil filter is located beneath the front exhaust manifold. For other engines, the filter is underneath the car.

4. Prepare closed end wrench or metric socket, cleaning cloths, oil drip pan, and new filter. Slide under your Camry and find the filter and drain plug. Most drain plugs are located on the bottom rear of the oil pan and the filters are near the front.

Changing the Oil

1. Remove the drain plug and take the metric socket or closed end wrench. Pull the plug fast, and leave it for about 10 to 15 minutes to let the oil to drain into the pan. Now check for any damage on the threads of the plug. Clean off excess oil.

2. Now you may replace the drain plug and move on to the next part, the filter. If the filter is under the front exhaust manifold, you should slide out and look under the hood to find the filter. Remove the filter by using a filter wrench and dump the oil into the oil drip pan.

3. Use oil to coat the new filter’s rubber gasket. Slide out and fill your Camry with oil.

The oil type depends on your Camry year:

1983-1988 Camry : 5W-30, 10W-50, 10W-40, 10W-30, 15W-40, 20W-50 or 20W-40

1989-1991 Camry : 5W-30, 10W-30 or 10W-40

1992 – up Camry : 5W-30 or 10W-30

For colder temperatures use 5W oil, it’s the preferred oil type for most cars.

4. Now, start your Camry for a minute to let the oil pressure builds. Using dipstick, check the oil level. Turn off the car and add more oil if the dipstick shows it’s not at full. Shut the hood and lower your car.

It's official...
The 2008 Toyota Camry represents the second year of the nameplate’s sixth generation. Properly equipped, the Camry usually ends up more expensive than most midsize sedans.

The 2008  Camry comes as a midsize four-door sedan available in four trim levels — base (formerly CE), LE, SE and XLE. The base Camry comes exclusively with a four-cylinder engine, while the three higher trims offer a choice between the four-cylinder and a V6.

The Camry LE adds keyless entry and an eight-way power driver seat. The standard engine on all trim levels is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder rated for 158 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic drives the front wheels of all V6 Camrys.

Driving Impressions

In the first four months of 2008, Toyota sold 147,018 Camry sedans to ravenous stateside consumers. We Americans love us some Camry.

The Camry boasts a QEII-worthy cabin, including abundant rear-seat legroom and a cavernous 15-cu-ft trunk. 2008 Camrys use the same V6 engine. Many reviews also note that the ’07 redesign left Camry interiors looking and feeling of lower quality than previous versions.

All 2008 Camrys are four-door, front-wheel-drive midsize sedans. Trims run from the entry-level CE up to the sportier SE, more-luxurious LE, and top-of-the-line XLE versions, including a Hybrid trim and V6-powered versions of the SE, LE, and XLE.

All Camrys feature front-wheel drive, with the Camry CE, SE, LE, and XLE trims all getting power from a 2.4-liter, 158-horsepower inline four-cylinder engine that puts out 161 ft-lbs of torque at 4,000 RPM and can be paired with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission.

SE V6, LE V6, and XLE V6 trims feature a 3.5-liter, 268-hp V6 that gets 248 ft-lbs at 4,700 RPM and drives a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Camry Hybrid pairs a 2.4-liter, 147-hp inline four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor that adds 40 hp to overall power and can power the vehicle alone at speeds up to 30 mph. The SE comes standard with 17-inch wheels.

Cabin & Comfort

All trims above the entry-level CE include a power driver’s seat and optional CD changer, which is standard on the XLE trims. Higher-end trims offer a number of options, including leather seating, heated front seats, a sunroof (standard on the SE, but not available on the four-cylinder XLE), and a navigation system.

Safety

Every 2008 Toyota Camry comes with front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. In base and LE models, the Camry’s interior design is function-driven. Camry SE and XLE models have different interior treatments that raise the sedan’s style quotient.

The 2008 Camry earned five-star ratings in all government safety tests except rollover resistance, in which it earned a four-star rating. CarGurus users rate the 2008 Camry very highly.

There are minor interior upgrades, which vary by model. That four-cylinder engine has a 2.4-liter displacement and 160 horsepower (or 151 in California-emissions states) for good performance. All grades but the Standard are available with a V6 engine, a 210-hp 3.0-liter for the LE and XLE or a 225-hp 3.3-liter for the SE.

The 2005 Camry review got a new grille, headlamps and taillights to bring it into fashion with cars of the time. The 2005 Toyota Camry review reveals that camry comes in four trim levels. The base model offers amenities such as cruise control, power windows and an AM/FM/CD stereo. The LE adds an upgraded interior, keyless entry and 15-inch aluminum wheels.

The 2005 Camry review realize that camry comes standard with a 160 horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, although a more powerful engine option is available in the LE, SE and XLE models, and all can be upgraded to an automatic transmission.

The Toyota Camry is still America’s quintessential midsize car, and it’s easy to see why. In addition to the sedan, Toyota offers the Camry Solara coupe and convertible.

2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 Toyota Camry LE Passenger Side Mirror Head Assembly – Power Non-Heated Convex Glass Non-Folding Phantom Gray – 1E3

The array of Camry models is somewhat confusing. The sedan is available in base, four-cylinder form and ever fancier LE, SE, and XLE trims, with either four- or six-cylinder power. The convertibles are available only with the V-6 engine in SE or SLE trim, and the coupes come in SE, SE Sport, and SLE guise with either engine.

The Camry’s clean, tasteful sedan body and more curvaceous coupe/convertible body suggest a mannered approach to motoring. Standard Camry sedans make do with 15-inch wheels and tires; 16-inchers are variously optional and standard on the middle trim levels; and 17s are standard on convertibles, some coupes, and the SE sedan.

A standard Camry has air conditioning and power door locks and windows, but an XLE V-6 has standard automatic climate control, wood-grain interior trim, and power front seats, with a power moonroof and leather seats among the optional features.

The new Toyota 2005 Camry review acknowledged that LE just shows how high the average in the mid-size sedan class is today.

APPEARANCE:

There’s nothing average about the Camry’s appearance. The Standard and LE have steel wheels with covers, while alloys are standard on the SE and XLE. A tilt-adjustable steering wheel is standard fare, with power-adjustable pedals available in cars equipped with automatic transmissions.

SAFETY:

The Camry has a reinforced passenger cabin with front and rear crumple zones. All models feature anti-lock brakes and multi-stage front airbags, with front and rear side and side curtain airbags available.

NEW 2002-06 Camry Power Window Control Switch Toyota (2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 02 03 04 05 06 passenger side, power, button, panel)

ON THE ROAD:

Except in SE trim, a Camry has no pretense to sport, so the suspension is tuned for a smooth ride. PERFORMANCE: There are two slightly-different versions of the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine used in the Camry. Driver and passenger curtain airbags (along with front side airbags) are optional on all Camry sedans and Solara Coupes.

Anti-lock brakes are standard on all Camry models and body styles, but stability and traction control are available only on LE, SE, and XLE sedans, and SLE coupe and convertible models.

Essentially, from this 2005 Camry review we can conclude the Camry offers three different engines. Camry Solara coupes have a slightly lower power rating for their four-cylinder engines: 157 horsepower and 162 lb-ft.

Even the SE Sport Camry Solara coupe is more boulevardier than back-road hero.

1. Remove the air intake ducting

2. Hold the throttle plate open, and use an air intake cleaner aerosol and an old toothbrush to clean out the throttle body.

3. Gummy deposits build up there and stick the throttle plate.

4.Will probably idle smoother afterwards, too.

November 2009 Toyota made a Recall. The recall is intended to fix a very dangerous defect which can lead to Unintended Acceleration of the vehicle. Initially thought to be an issue with floor mats, the real problem involves the cars electronic throttle system. The recall was prompted by a high speed crash in August in California of a Lexus barreling out of control. As the vehicle hit speeds exceeding 120 mph, family members made a frantic 911 call and said the accelerator was stuck and they couldn’t stop the vehicle.
