  Even though the S80 is equipped with V-8 engine and all-wheel drive and full of different options are considerably cheaper than the V-8-powered versions of its competitors: Audi A6, BMW 535i, Infiniti M45 and Cadillac STS.   In 1998, the Volvo S80 was added to the lineup and to enter the market mid-size luxury car. During this period, the S80 immediately became standout in its class for performance and design.

From the outside, the Volvo S80 seems simple, but it has the aura of luxury that one can definitely experience inside the S80.
  As far as Volvo calls "Scandinavian luxury", the cockpit of the S80 reflects a simple but functional and luxurious design. In addition to interior style, the control units of some of the features of the S80 is also simple to operate making it convenient for consumers. The seats offer good side support and back that gives a sense of comfort even if he or she is tied to the seats of the vehicle on a long journey. For families, the S80 offers good storage capacity. The materials used in the manufacture of S80 differ in strength. Those who are away from passengers is not as strong as those near the passenger. This is specifically designed to absorb more energy in a collision. Other safety features include adaptive cruise control, or the BLIS Blind Spot Information System, the Personal Car Communicator, and adaptive headlights bi-xenon. Increased engine power also need a good braking system. The Volvo S80 is equipped with large ventilated disc brakes on all wheels. It is also equipped with an anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution. The S80 is not only safe for passengers but also for the environment, thanks to Volvo catalytic converter is equipped with.
