We need to get started now, so that we have time to cover everything.

First thing to do is to check the visual of your vehicle. Following steps will assist a person about what to do and from where.

• Have a look at your tires. Are they low by look? Pressure gauge is available at a very low cost from any discount auto parts store. Maintain it as necessary. The better your tire pressure will be, the safer your vehicle will be and fuel efficient. There are many cheap air pumps available at discount stores. Motorcyclists and moped riders have to check tire pressure exceptionally.

• Take a closer look at your tires and inquire for any edges, missing amount of rubber or some objects sticking on the tire. Take your vehicle into the shop for alignment if your tires are new and seems to be wearing unevenly.

• Another important thing is to look under your vehicle for liquid leakage. If it is only a drop, then no need to worry about. Keep in mind that in the summer season, your vehicle will drop out more water because of air conditioning. Coolant system will also emit bit of water. If there is consistency in leakage then look for the source of leakage.

• Check your engine oil according to the manufacturer’s instructions and feel it with your fingers. Engine oil is the life of your vehicle’s power plant. How is the oil feel? Is it watery or very thick? If it is thick. It’s good but if it’s watery, it’s bad for your vehicle. Change your watery oil and refill Engine oil which is thick.

• Another thing to check is the coolant level. Always follow precautions by manufacturer’s to avoid any harmful thing. Never use coolant or anti-freeze which is not recommended by manufacturers.

• Check the compartment of your engine. Caps should be tighten, confidently tug/test hose connections. Light engine cleaning is a very good thing for your vehicle. It’s very easy, just take some rags and degreaser (ammonia and water make a cheap but great degreaser). A toothbrush is required to perform this step.

• Visually check your vehicles battery and connections. Check that all the connections are tight with the battery. If someone sees a green or white build-up on the battery, mix some baking soda with tepid water (1/4- cup of baking soda to one quart of water) now pour it directly on the affected areas. Don’t worry about the fizzing and crackling. Apply a thin coating of grease onto each terminal of the battery when it is clean and dry.

After these useful guides, an individual can be a fully fledged automotive diagnostician. Keep an eye out for part II, and part III.

Are you a car owner with a Do-It-Yourselfer soul ? If you are, then you’ll find this car body repair guide to be both helpful and useful.

When you drive your car out of the garage, you expose her to a cruel world, where scratches, dings, and dents haunt the entire journey.

Okay, I know my words are a little bit exaggerating. But it’s an undeniable fact that sometimes your car will have small dents or gouges.

SEEN ON TV Ding King

These dents are too costly to repair considering their small sizes and the amount of money that you must spend.

However you simply can’t ignore them because they affect the overall appearance of your ride.

If this is the case, you may want to consider performing the car body repair yourself. By doing it on your own you can cut a big amount of cost.

Body Filler

If you use body filler correctly it may result in a well done repair. Almost every car body shop uses a little body filler.

On early days, the manufacturers produced body filler from lead, but such chemical substance was found to be harmful to brain cells and reproductive functions. So they stopped using lead.

Basically a body filler (or Bondo) is a two-part putty. It is often used to repair dents in cars.

When mixed the filler becomes rock hard and can be sanded to a desired shape.

Body filler is actually a plastic resin, it adheres well to metal and can last for a long time.

Performing a car body repair is sometimes an unavoidable need. But you can reduce the amount of money spent if you are able to do it on your own, as long as you have the right tools, sufficient knowledge and a little experience.

This is the simplest method of car body repair. You should purchase shoe polish that matches your car’s color.

All you need is rub the polish over the scratches. After the polish has been applied, sand it over by using a sandpaper.

The sanding will even out the scratch. When sanding, you should remove the shoe polish completely.

Now, buff the scratched area using a cloth. In order to remove any dirt that’s left, wash the scratched area.

If after performing the repair the scratches are still visible, It’s better to hand your car to the professionals.

Car Body Repair Equipments

If you’re serious about going into car body repair, you may want to purchase various dent repair tools. These tools may cost you about $1,000 to $2,000. Here are several tools that you may want to have:

  • Dent pulling tool
  • Small drill bit 1/8″ thick
  • Grit disk for grinding down the paint.
  • A hammer
  • Body filler
  • Primer and paint for larger dents

Unless you already own some of these tools, It may be less costly to take your vehicle to the professional car body repair shop. But if you’re serious about getting into this kind of service, why not ?

Fiberglass Bumper : Learn How to Repair Those Cracks

Fiberglass bumper repair is a task that requires persistence, accuracy, and carefulness. But if you have the motivation, you will be able to do it.

Many vehicles use fiberglass bumpers. The choice of using fiberglass bumpers is pretty obvious, because this type of bumpers is a lot cheaper and easier to repair when compared with metal bumpers.

Before beginning the repair task you may want to consider buying a fiberglass repair kit that are sold widely in auto repair stores.

Like usual, I recommend you to go online and find a reputable online shopping stores like Amazon and never purchase any products before reading the customer reviews.

The repair kit should contain any materials that you’ll be needing to fix any kind of bumper damages except the large ones.

Bondo – Fiberglass Repair Kit, large (422)

Meguiar’s M4965 Marine/RV Fiberglass Restoration System

How do you know if you have a large bumper damage which is best repaired by the professional repair ?

All you need is a simple measurement, if you find that the damaged area is larger than 1 foot long, then it will be better to rely it on the hands of a professional.

But if it’s smaller than 1 foot, then you may want to get your tools ready.

1. First, you will need to sand the cracked area of your bumper. In order to do this you need a rough grit sandpaper. This is required to produce a rough texture on the bumper.

Sand slightly on about 2 inches outside of the damaged area, apply the sand on all sides.

Observe the bumper, If you find that the damaged area is bigger than just a small crack, you should remove and dispose those loose fiberglass pieces.

2. Use old rags and clean the area with ethyl acetate. This is done to remove any wax, dirt, oil and other substances. You are highly advised to wear rubber gloves when performing the cleaning in order to protect your hands from the chemical.

And also make sure you do the work in a well-ventilated area.

3. Now observe carefully the damaged area before making decision whether you only need resin to fix it or you need a fiberglass patch.

You’ll need to use fiberglass sheets in order to fix the damages, if the cracks and depressed areas are larger than 4 inches.

4. Mix the MEK peroxide and fiberglass resin with this composition, 1 part peroxide into 9 parts of fiberglass resin.

Use a putty knife and mix the resin over the damaged parts. Take about three to four fiberglass sheets and press them into the area in order to smooth out area with the rest of the bumper.

3M – Fiberglass Resins, quart (05833)

5. You need to keep adding resin over the patch until the resin sits a bit higher than the rest of the fiberglass.

While the resin is still wet, inspect carefully and make sure that there aren’t any air bubbles inside of it. If there are any bubbles, use a sharp pin to pop them.

6. In order to protect the resin from dust and other substances, apply a plastic wrap layer over it while it dries.

Leave the resin for at least three hours to allow it to dry completely.

7. Now you need to sand the area until it sits to its original height on the bumper. After sanding, use a rubbing compound and old rags to buff the area. Keep buffing until it’s shiny and glossy.

Before you work on the fiberglass bumper, you should first prepare these tools and materials:

  • Orbital sander
  • Rough and fine grit sandpaper
  • Pin
  • MEK peroxide
  • Ethyl acetate
  • Old rags
  • Rubber gloves
  • Putty knife
  • Plastic wrap
  • Rubbing compound
  • Fiberglass resin

An Alternative Method for Dent Removal

Paintless Dent Repair
There’s no car owners that wish to have any dents on their rides. But there are times when these things just happen.

Today there’s a distinctive method of dent removal that doesn’t require to remove (beating out) the dents or remove any parts of your car.

Due to the nature of the method, the price of such service is usually much cheaper than traditional dent repair.

This method is usually known as paintless dent repair or paintless dent removal.

However those who perform the repair must have sufficient skill, experience, patience, and proper tools.

As its name suggests, the procedures don’t involve any painting process. That’s why the process takes lesser time to complete.

Most paintless dent repair businesses are mobile services. So you can call and ask them to perform the task at home.

The first thing a repair staff usually does is push the metal back to its original state.
This should be done gradually and on a small part of the dent one at a time. This task usually takes several hours to finish depending on the size of the dent.

Most of the tools that are used are long in size, they have flat shape, and solid nature.

This is required to make sure the tool is able to sustain the amount of pressure that will be applied.

This device is used by sliding into the gap that’s usually located behind the panel.

From behind of the panel, the repair guy will apply pressure using the tool to the dent.

This procedure is done slowly in order to push the metal so that it pops back to its original form.

H & S Auto Shot (HS 7500) Glue Puller Paintless Dent Removal

The dent removal procedure must be done with full attention and carefulness. Each small section of the dent is pushed, one at a time.

When performed correctly, the front side of panel should pop out without any damages.

In order to gain a good result from the procedure, you should give the repair specialist enough room for him to work.

This is necessary since the repair specialist need room for applying proper pressure on the back side of the metal.

Today there many shops that sell tools for paintless dent repair. But you should aware that in order to perform this procedure you need to get a proper training first.

Because without sufficient knowledge and practice you may create whether ripples in the metal or chips on the paint.

If this happens you’ll end up spending much more money for the repair or worse, the repair specialist may not be able to completely fix the dent.

The Complete Guide Towards Starting Your Own Paintless Dent Removal Business

However, if you decide to leave it to repair specialist, you must be certain about the qualification and experience of the repair guy.

You should also acknowledge that not every dent can be repaired using this method.

The location of the dent is the major factor that determines whether the dent removal can or cannot be processed using this paintless way.

If there is a crease in the metal, the chance to remove the dent using paintless method will be much lesser.

Dent Removal : How to Repair Your Damaged Bumpers

The Only Moment We Were Alone
When we drive our cars from time to time there’s a chance that the car makes accidental hits here and there. This is where dent removal process is required.

Usually the most vulnerable areas are the bumpers. Dents in these areas may accumulate from time to time until one day you say to yourself, that’s it, I need to fix them.

The repair process mainly depends on the type of bumper of your car. If you have metallic bumpers, you may be one of the lucky car owners. Because it’s easier to repair than other types of bumper.

Vinyl bumpers are the hardest type to fix. But don’t give up, let’s go down to the steps that are required to remove those nasty dents.

Let’s check out the dent removal steps, starting from the easiest one, that is a Metallic bumper.

1. First, remove your bumper. If you own a car with metallic bumper you may perform the dent removal process by using a rubber mallet, a piece of cloth, and a small block of wood.

The bumper needs to be removed so that you have wider access and more space to reach the inside of the molded metal.

After removing the bumper, lay it down. The surface where you lay down the bumper must be soft enough to avoid any damages during the repair. It’s best to use a towel or a soft thick cloth as the surface.

Rubber Mallet For Metal Smithing – 8 Ounces

2. Use The Block of Wood.

Take the block of wood, round off its end. You should round it into a form that matches the original shape of the inside of the bumper. Now place the wood against the dent. Use the rubber mallet to tap it.

Observe the bumper, check if the bumper shape is already restored. When it is restored already, you may clean, apply polishing, and replace the dent.

Ding King Dent Repair Kit

If You Have Vinyl Bumpers:

1. Remove the bumper and apply heat to the inward area of the bumper. As I’ve already said, this type of bumper is quite challenging to fix. But fear not, let’s continue the process.

2. Use a hairdryer or a heat gun to heat the bumper. This needs to be done in order to mold the plastic later. Hold your heating device about a few inches away from the inward area of the bumper where the dent resides.

3. When the vinyl softens, from the inside of the bumper, push the dent out. Use cold water on a cloth to reshape the vinyl. It’s also used to cool the bumper so that the new shape is set permanently.

Wagner Power Products 503008 HT 1000 1,200-Watt Heat Gun

How to Replace The Dent:

1. The color of molded bumpers is usually matched to the color of car’s body. In order to do this you should cut the dent out of the fiberglass. Replace the dent area with a new patch.

2. You should quickly sand the area once you replace it with a new patch. Repaint it with the color that matches the color of the rest of the bumper.

There you go, dent removal can be tricky however, when the dent is small you can try to repair it on your own, but if it’s quite large, you’d better go to the car body repair shop.

But if you decide to do it yourself, make sure you provide yourself with sufficient knowledge.

Steer on Ice : Learn How to Anticipate

Snowy road SAAB
If you’ve driven a car on icy road before, you’ll understand that it’s quite tricky to keep the steer in controlled condition.

Even when you drive your car on the perfect road condition, still there’s a possibility of something goes wrong.

I don’t mean to frighten you, but this fact should encourage us to drive safely and carefully.

Weather conditions may affect the toughness of car handling. When the road is covered with ice or snow, you should drive with extra caution.

There are drivers who think that they can drive their cars easily on any road condition, but that’s not the truth.

Sometimes the road seems clear, but if the driver isn’t aware enough he may be surprised to find that there’s a solid patch of ice hidden at a shady part of the road. This thing usually happens during the winter time.

A car seems to move unpredictable when it hits ice. The car may slide off to the road side or worse, it may slide towards oncoming traffic.

Rules of the Road 2-Disc DVD Set: Interactive Driver’s Ed Course

So, it’s extremely important to learn how to steer / handle your car when you encounter such situation (car sliding). This knowledge may save your life and others.

Driving on icy weather requires special attention and full awareness, you may drive just fine along one minute, but suddenly the car may slide to another side.

If this happens, you should not panic, and remember don’t stomp the brakes. Because if you hit the brakes, your car will keep sliding uncontrollably.

What you should do is quickly tap the brakes, let go, and tap again. Repeat this procedure until your car slows down and you are able to regain control over your car’s movement.

While doing this step, you should also turn the steering wheel to the same direction as the direction of the slide.

So, if your car slides to the right, you should turn the steering wheel to the right too. You need to turn the steering wheel sharply.

If you do this, the car will eventually straighten up and you may regain the control.

AAA 65-Piece Winter Severe Weather Travel Kit

I know it sounds a little uncommon, because it’s counter intuitive to turn the wheel to the same direction as the sliding direction.

But trust me, what you basically do is actually realigning the wheels.

Okay, after you’ve learned the technique, now is the time to put it into your subconscious.

Close your eyes and imagine you’re driving just like usual during the winter time, suddenly you feel like the car is sliding and you can’t control it.

In this situation you remain calm and begin tapping the brakes instead of stomping them. You let the brakes off for a while and then tap again, you repeat this step over and over.

At the same time you turn the steering wheel sharply to the direction of the slide.

When the car is slowing down to a stop, let go off the brakes again, this should be done to avoid sliding into oncoming traffic.

Anco 30-18 Premium Winter Wiper Blade – 18″

You should allow enough time before coming into the actual stop.

When you start to move from a complete stop, you may try press the accelerator while turning the steering wheel slightly. This action may help if the car is stuck on the ice.

But if the car doesn’t move and the tires keep spinning on one spot, you should check your rearview window and drive backward slightly. After this change the transmission and quickly drive forward.

Now eventually you can drive normally again.

Take a deep breath and release it, let go your worries, you’re safe now.

Thule 16mm XB16 High Quality SUV/Truck Snow Chain (Sold in pairs)

Replay this situation in your mind several times, especially before you drive a car in winter time. It helps build your confidence and capability.

However, in order to ensure you drive safely, you should have your car checked for regular maintenance. Check your battery, windshield wipers, cooling system, etc. Make sure they are in good condition.

At least once a year, you should have your tires checked. It’s important to make sure that you drive with good condition tires.

You should drive extra carefully through areas like shady spots, bridges, and ice.

Last thing, when you drive during icy or snowy condition, drive slowly even if there’s no ice visible on the road.

Car Body Repair : Five Best Car Paint Scratch Removers

New Car Excitement
Photo by wishymom (Stephanie Wallace Photography)
Are you in a search of car scratch remover to perform a car body repair ? Be glad, because now, I’ve compiled five items that may help you to remove car scratches.

These items are five of the best car scratch removers according to my reviews. However, you should make sure to apply the scratch removers once you have washed your cars in order to gain the best benefit from them.

Before you start to apply the liquid or gel base to your car, you should first perform a sandpapering session, because your car may have different coats.

Find a shaded area where you can safely apply the scratch removers. This should be done in order to avoid direct sunlight from affecting the end results.

In order to gain the best result from your DIY Car Body Repair, you should avoid exposing your vehicle to rainy conditions before you are confirmed that the application has dried completely.

Here is the list of the best five Car Paint Scratch Removers. This list is compiled according to my own opinion and is subject to change due to the development of car paint technology :

1. Nu Finish Scratch Doctor : This application is well known for its quick dry result. Many car owners love this item because of its fast result. If you have a newer car that needs some fix, go and find this stuff. You may shop for it on various internet sites.

The price when this article is written is around $10 – $11. But when I check on the Amazon, they sell it for $9.37 at this time of writing.

I’ve read a complaint that said this scratch remover didn’t perform optimally when dealing with quite serious scratches. So, I only recommend this for newer cars and easy scratches.

Check out this item on Amazon:

2. Quixx Paint Scratch Remover : It is a very popular paint scratch remover and it’s very useful when you accidentally bump a fence or scrape a mark on your car. All you need to do is apply the solution and use a cloth to wipe it off. After that, you’ll hardly notice the mark that was there before.

This application works wonderfully when you have fine scratch. All you need is wipe and clean the surface, apply cream no.1 and make sure the solution sit firmly and then use buffer. Use cream no.2 to give it a glossy shine. And you’ll be happy to see the result.

Quixx Paint Scratch Remover

3. Voodoo Ride VR7006 HEXX : If you have black cars, consider to use this item. You’ll have the best result if you buff the surface first. This remover is able to fix heavy scratches, this 4 oz bottle is also very compact and easy to carry around in your car.
